🛠️ Setup Process (at a glance)
Across NepalPay Tap, FoneTAG, and supported mobile banking apps, setup usually follows the same pattern:
• Use the latest official app from your bank or NCHL (connectIPS / Fonepay).
• Complete in-app activation with OTP and set offline / tap limits where offered.
• Confirm NFC is ON (Android) and that the merchant terminal shows the correct tap or QR flow.
• Log in online periodically so offline tokens can refresh (see Token Logic).
📶 Login Screen Offline UI
When you tap “Tap to pay offline” (with NFC logo), you typically see:
💳 NFC Card Tap (POS)
Contactless cards: Look for the contactless wave symbol on your card. Tap on POS terminals for fast checkout.
🏧 NFC ATM Tap
NFC ATM: (e.g. NIMB) Tap the card on the ATM’s NFC reader instead of inserting. Enter your PIN to proceed with cash withdrawal. Often more resistant to skimming than magstripe dip.
🔒 The Rs. 5,000+ PIN Rule
Under Rs. 5,000: PIN-LESS
Tap and go.
Above Rs. 5,000: PIN REQUIRED
For cards, insert/dip and enter PIN. For mobile, authorize with biometric/PIN even if the screen is unlocked.
Limit check: After several consecutive PIN-less taps, the system may require PIN entry to confirm you still have the device.
🛡️ Safety FAQ
• Only enable offline/tap features in official bank or NCHL apps.
• If your phone is lost, contact your bank immediately to block cards and digital channels.
• Keep screen lock and app PIN/biometric enabled; do not share OTPs.
• Verify the payment amount on the terminal or receipt before tapping.
• iOS: offline tap may be limited; QR-based offline flows are more common—follow your bank’s guidance.
📴 What is an “Offline Token”?
A one-time-style authorization issued during activation so your device can talk to a terminal without live internet. SAFETY Tokens are encrypted and time-bound. Refresh by logging in online periodically (many flows suggest at least every ~48 hours while using offline pay).
