Yes, as per new government regulations effective from Magh 1, 2082, National Identity Card (NID) is compulsory for opening any new bank account in Nepal. Existing account holders are also required to link their NID to their accounts.
How can I link my NID to my bank account?

How to check SIM registration details?

Namaste/NTC (Nepal Telecom): Dial *922#

These codes display the registered name on your SIM card. The name must exactly match your bank account name.
What if SIM name doesn’t match?

If SIM is not in your name, fill out a Mobile No./SIM Declaration Form at your bank branch. This allows account opening with alternative verification.
